Using woods native to the southeastern United States, Moulthrop turns large and simple vessels that highlight the grain, beauty, texture, and color that are too often overlooked. This bowl is one of a series that Moulthrop developed in which cross sections of white pine are preserved and suspended in resin. The contrasting black ground heightens the visual impact of each disk of wood and focuses attention on its uniqueness.
