Experience Smithsonian at Gallery Place—two museums that tell America’s stories through art, history and biography. The National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum are located in Washington’s vibrant new downtown. Both museums will reopen in July 2006 after an extensive renovation to their shared historic home.
Smithsonian American Art Museum

National Portrait Gallery
The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery connects Americans with their heritage by telling the stories of the extraordinary men and women who have contributed to our national culture. The gallery presents portraits of American lives, each of which is a story told by many voices—a mosaic of reflections on people, places and times. |
