Edward Hopper: It was painted in Gloucester, I think in the residential District where the old sea captains had their housesand they're very fine, some of them. It interested me because of the variety of roofs and the windowsthe mansard roof, which has always interested me and I don't know why. It was a very windy day, as I remember it, and I sat out in the street, I think, and I don't think it was done at one sitting, but I don't remember really. It might have been one or two.
