In the 18th century, no discussion of art would have been complete without considering the nature of beauty and the sublime. But now, it often seems as if no two concepts are more irrelevant for discussions of art and music. Edward Rothstein, Critic-at-Large for the Wall Street Journal, will examine how the sublime manifests itself in American art and culture.
