For the Love of Gene Davis: The Legacy of Color Field Painting
Friday, March 10, 2017, 6:30pm
Contemporary artists Polly Apfelbaum and Odili Donald Odita’s work echoes the formal characteristics of Gene Davis’s paintings—color, light, improvisation, and abstraction. They discuss their own work and practice in the context of Color Field painting. Afterwards, Joanna Marsh, SAAM’s senior curator of contemporary interpretation, moderates a discussion about the lasting influence of Gene Davis and the legacy of Color Field painting.
