Smithsonian American Art Museum

The museum, now part of the Donald W. Reynolds Center, presents an exciting array of special exhibitions and free public programs. It is located above the Gallery Place Metro station at 8th and F Streets N.W. in the heart of Washington, D.C.'s vibrant new downtown (pdf, 84k), and is open from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily (except December 25). Free public wireless Internet access (Wi-Fi) is available in the museum's new Robert and Arlene Kogod Courtyard.

The Courtyard Café offers casual dining from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Courtyard Café offers a seasonal menu of American-inspired dishes, using local, organic or sustainable ingredients when possible. The menu includes soups, create-your-own salad entrees, sandwiches and panini, which are available until 4 p.m. Gourmet desserts, ice cream and healthy snacks, such as fruit and yogurt parfaits, also are available. Pre-made sandwiches and salads are available until 6:30 p.m. Coffee, espresso, beer and red and white wines also may be enjoyed in the café anytime. The Portico Café (seasonal, weather permitting) is open from April through mid-October. Group dining packages are available for groups of twenty or more. The Renwick Gallery

The museum's Renwick Gallery is located near the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue at 17th Street N.W. The Renwick is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., daily (except December 25).

Library

The Smithsonian American Art Museum/National Portrait Gallery Library specializes in American art, history, and biography. The library is open to the public at 750 Ninth Street N.W., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For information, call (202) 633-8230. Remember to bring a photo ID. You will need to register at the front desk in the lobby.
