Biography of Patrick Nagel After military service in Vietnam in the 1970s, Patrick Nagel began to attract an international audience for his images of sensual, mysterious women, which were reminiscent of Art Deco and Japanese woodblocks. His artistic output included commercial designs for album covers, magazine illustrations, and posters, as well as limited edition prints, paintings, and sculpture. Nagel built his reputation as one of Playboy magazine's most popular illustrators for almost a decade. Nagel died at the age of thirty-eight after performing an aerobics routine at a charity benefit.
