Duke Ellington and "Paris Blues"

National Portrait Gallery
All Ages In celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month, the National Portrait Gallery presents a film screening of Paris Blues (1961). Directed by Martin Ritt (Hombre, Sounder, Norma Rae), with an Oscar-nominated score by Duke Ellington, Paris Blues was filmed on location in Paris. The film stars Paul Newman, Sidney Poitier, Diahann Carroll and Joanne Woodward. The program is free and open to the public; no tickets are required. Doors open at 6:30; seating is first come, first served. The Portrait Gallerys Reel Portraits series explores the lives and culture of America through dramatic, documentary, and archival film. Screenings and lectures for this series are all located in the Nan Tucker McEvoy Auditorium at the Donald W. Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture. Admission is free. Doors open one half-hour before show time; seating is first-come, first-served. |
