William Hawkins had made paintings and drawings as early as the 1930s, but not until the mid-1970s did he devote significant time to his art. Food Bar, which depicts a favorite hangout in his Columbus, Ohio, neighborhood, is one of many scenes showing contemporary landmarks in the city where he lived for more than seventy years.
