Like his father, Felipe, Leroy Archuleta carves life-sized creatures with ferocious yet endearing faces. Both carve animals native to New Mexico, as well as beasts pictured in children's books and popular magazines such as National Geographic. Leroy notes that his carvings can always be distinguished from his father's: "I use sandpaper, for instance; he wouldn't take the time." In Javelina, he has incorporated bone and glass to enhance the realistic appearance of this wild boar.
