Renwick Gallery

The Renwick Gallery, a branch of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, provides a showcase for contemporary American crafts and decorative arts in a historic building located steps from the White House in the nation's capital. It complements collections and exhibitions on display in the Smithsonian American Art Museum's main building, where American decorative arts, from the colonial period to the Gilded Age and beyond, are presented with paintings, sculptures, and graphic arts.

Robyn Kennedy, the chief of the Renwick Gallery, manages daily operations and long-term planning, as well as overseeing exhibitions, collections, publications, acquisitions, research, and supervising staff. Nicholas Bell, The Fleur and Charles Bresler Curator of American Craft and Decorative Art, develops exhibitions and focuses on acquiring works that keep the museum collection relevent. Staff at the Renwick Gallery work closely with colleagues in other offices at the Museum, including External Affairs, Education, Publications, and the Registrar's Office.
