Architexture
1992 |
| Lonning has chosen basketry as a means of expression because it allows her great freedom to work with color and pattern in a rigid form. This piece was inspired by the strength and simplicity of Japanese courtyard gardens and the color and intimacy of English cottage gardens. Lonning developed a technique of construction that produces a double wall, prompting associations with the privacy and mystery of enclosed spaces. |
