Meet Dorothy Cheng | Lunder Conservation Center Audio Tour

Hi, my name is Dorothy Cheng, and I’m the Lunder Fellow in Objects Conservation. I’m a conservator specializing in metal objects. During my fellowship at the Lunder Conservation Center at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, I’ve been researching the bronze sculptures you see here, by American artist Paul Manship. Though he’s little known today, Paul Manship was a popular and influential artist in the first half of the 20th century. His innovative sculptures re-interpreted and synthesized the styles of archaic Greek, Egyptian, and Asian art and shaped the development of Art Deco in America.

Meet Lunder Fellow Dorothy Cheng, who has been researching 20th-century bronze sculptures by Paul Manship at SAAM.
