Artwork Description

Anthony de Francisci’s father, Benedetto, worked in the marble business in Palermo, Sicily, where young Anthony assisted him with carving. This experience inspired Anthony to make a career for himself as a sculptor in the United States. Here, the coat of arms in the upper right corner features a mallet and chisel that symbolize the craft passed down from father to son.
