Artwork Description

Fred Fenster believes that all good design has an ethical purpose. This cup, a simple, almost primitive object, was designed with the same attention he brings to more elaborate pieces. “I find metal working a retreat,” he says. “It’s a clean world . . . If you do each thing properly, you’re going to get a reward . . . Where in life can you get that?” (Metalsmith, Fall 1980)
