Artwork Description

Anthony de Francisci created this uniface artist’s strike to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the Diocese of Galveston-Houston, which was founded in 1847 and encompasses ten counties in southeastern Texas. The design for the obverse shows the fourth bishop of Galveston, Christopher Byrne, with St. Mary’s Cathedral in the background.
