Artwork Description

Albert Laessle created the Philadelphia Sesquicentennial International Exposition Medal in 1926 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. On the obverse, the American bald eagle stands guard over its eggs, symbolically defending the freedom that was born in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776.
