Artwork Description

William Rhinelander Stewart (1852-1929) was a prominent New Yorker and president of the State Board of Charities for twenty-five years. The Latin motto on the reverse of Paul Manship’s medal appears on the crest of the Stewart clan and reads “Courage Grows Strong at a Wound.”
