Biography

George Henry Hall was one of the most well-respected still-life painters in America during the mid-nineteenth century. His realistic images of fruits and flowers were influenced by the British Pre-Raphaelite movement. Hall's success enabled him to travel to Italy and Spain, where he was greatly inspired by scenes of everyday life and created romanticized scenes of Mediterranean culture. Hall returned to still-life painting later in his career and his work remained popular until his death.
