Beyond the Studio Workshop with The Barbershop Project

Hear from professionals that work in the arts, then sharpen your own creative skills with a hands-on activity related to the speaker's own expertise.

Activist poet, Micah Powell, will present a workshop on using art to spark community action and change our world for the better. Participants will write and perform poetry and brainstorm ways to empower their communities. Presented in collaboration with Cultural DC.

Micah Powell is an orator, writer, poet, and community activist. While he calls the DMV home, he has been an influential voice in community building all over the country. He has worked with politicians, religious organizations, governments, and communities to empower everyday people. Powell captivates audiences with his colorful combinations of words, monologues about civil rights leaders, and passionate pleas for peace.
