CANCELED: Then and Now: Spiral Jetty and Earth Day at 50

Wednesday, April 22, 2020, 6 – 7pm EDT
Commemorate the 50th anniversary of Robert Smithson’s masterpiece film Spiral Jetty (1970) and the mass demonstrations that launched Earth Day. Join SAAM curators Saisha Grayson and Karen Lemmey and Josh Franco, curator at the Archives of American Art, for this special screening and conversation. The discussion investigates the relationships between Land Art and rising environmental awareness and consider how Smithson’s attention to “earth’s history” speaks to its uncertain future.
