Artwork Description

James Augustus Suydam (1819-1865) was an artist and collector associated with the Hudson River school of landscape painting, and part of the sociable group of artists and patrons who spent the summer months in New Hampshire. His sudden death at the age of forty-six caught the art world by surprise.
