Artwork Description

Rosina Cox Boardman, a miniaturist herself, was born in 1878. This means she would have been sixty-two at the time of this portrait, but the artist chose to depict her at around forty years old. The Levantia White Boardman Memorial Medal, a coveted prize awarded by the American Society of Miniature Painters, was named after Rosina’s mother. Both Boardman and Mabel Welch were recipients of this award during their careers.
