Artwork Description

The Society of Medalists was established in 1930 and is the oldest medal collectors’ organization in the United States. The sculptor Robert Aitken created this medal, which was the fifteenth issued by the society. On the obverse, a variant of the Latin phrase for “Love Conquers All” appears with a classically inspired figural composition. The English motto on the reverse is not an exact translation of the Latin. Research has not revealed the purpose for which Aitken designed this medal.
