Artwork Description

Gertrude Lathrop created intimate sculptures of domesticated animals because of their “infinite variety of form and texture and their great beauty.” She especially liked to model young animals which, according to the artist, had not grown into the typical movements of older animals. The calf in Nancy Lee is all legs and luxuriant fur, twisting herself into knots as she tries to scratch an itch on her back.
