Artwork Description

Ferdinand Pettrich modeled this piece of the philanthropist John Vaughan in Philadelphia in 1842. A wealthy wine merchant and patron of the arts and sciences, Vaughan was well known in Philadelphia society during the early nineteenth century and may have been a patron of the artist’s during his first years in America.
