Artwork Description

Miner Kilbourne Kellogg made many sketches of Egypt, Palestine, and Constantinople during the 1840s. When he returned to Florence, he created several idealized paintings of Middle Eastern people that he advertised as “national representative portraits.” (Davis, The Landscape of Belief, 1996)
