Artwork Description

Untitled is typical of the blown glass vases that Michael Pavlik created in the mid- to late 1970s. Here, the fused green, brown, and blue glass resembles an abstract landscape. A layer of clear glass covers the decoration. This type of layered glass is known as "cased glass." Cased glass can be challenging to blow because it can be difficult to avoid air bubbles between the different layers, which (depending on their compositions) may react differently when heated.
