Little is known about Ed Muringer, except that he lived in northeast Pennsylvania and probably worked as a carver and a spear fisherman in the early twentieth century. His decoys are among the earliest to show a carved wooden shell over a lead center (Kimball, The Fish Decoy, vol. I, 1986).
