Biography

Ira Sherman grew bored with biology and chemistry in college and began taking art classes as a way to escape the “rigidity of science.” He developed an early respect for the relationship between form and function from his father, who sold heavy machinery for metal fabrication. Sherman restores architectural metalwork and creates jewelry, liturgical silver, and large sculpture. He remains interested in mathematics, mechanics, and science and now integrates these disciplines in interactive sculptures that address moral and social issues.
