Artwork Description

Dennis Byng uses techniques traditionally associated with manufacturing to create his acrylic and Lucite sculptures. The casting and laminating process demands technical precision in order to achieve such flawless shapes and colors. Byng initially worked on a small scale, as in Column with Orange, Blue, and Green Diagonals, and concentrated on enclosing slabs of color within clear boxes. (Untitled) and 77a AA represent a move toward larger forms and employ soft veils of color rather than geometric blocks.
