Launching Pheon!

September 28, 2010

One hundred sixty people came to American Art on September 18th to participate in the launch event for our new alternate reality game, Pheon. First, each participant answered three questions to determine whether they would be playing as Knaves or Staves. How would you respond?

1. You’re having a dream about fishing, are you?
a) Wading in a stream.
b) On a boat in the middle of the ocean.

2. Which would you rather untie?
a) A knot
b) A bow

3. If you played professional football, which squad would you be on?
a) Defense
b) Offense

Answer: Mostly A = Stave. Mostly B = Knave

Once their alliance was established, each team completed three quests in order to finish the game. Tasks included deciphering complex codes, finding hidden messages, wearing cunning disguises, belly-dancing, and creating sculptures from aluminum foil. At the end of the day, the Staves beat the Knaves by just one team! This means that when the online game launches on October 8, the Staves will be in control. But how long that lasts is up to the players...
