Biography

Victor Rousseau was the son of a stonemason, and as a teenager developed an interest in art and began taking classes. Originally from Belgium, he traveled and exhibited extensively in Europe. He fled to England during the German occupation of Belgium in World War II and later sculpted a memorial to commemorate England’s hospitality towards Belgian refugees. In addition to public monuments, Rousseau sculpted portraits.
