Empathize with artist Alma Thomas to design innovative solutions to physical challenges.
SKILL: As designers, we will make close observations, empathize with a product end user, and iterate to solve problems.
CONTENT: Design problems have multiple solutions, some of which are more or less appropriate for a variety of end users.
MATERIALS:
Note taking supplies (large sheets of paper, markers, etc.)
Paint (watercolor and acrylic)
Paintbrushes (large and small)
Cardboard (from boxes)
Tables
Chairs
Masking tape
Pencils
PRE-TEACH: This two-day activity will be most effective if students are familiar with the design process. Teaching supports are available here.
