Artwork Description

George Catlin described his sitter as “a brave, wrapped in his robe, and his hair reaching to the ground; his spear in his hand, and bow and quiver slung.” He executed the portrait at Fort Union in the upper Midwest in 1832. (Catlin, 1848 Catalogue, Catlin’s Indian Gallery, SAAM online exhibition)
