Katie Crooks, public program coordinator at American Art and the woman behind Handi-Hour, discusses the genesis for the DIY projects at our next Handi-Hour on Wednesday, June 11.

A couple of years ago, Katie Crooks gave a presentation on our Handi-Hour events at the American Alliance Museum's Annual Meeting. Jessica Pigza, a rare book curator from the New York Public Library who developed her own DIY program, Crafternoon also participated in the discussion.

This past spring, Pigza published BiblioCraft: A Modern Crafter's Guide to Using Library Resources to Jumpstart Creative Projects, and it inspired this summer's Handi-hour projects. There's a great section in BiblioCraft featuring maps and cartography, and Crooks put her own spin on the idea of crafting with maps for this round of Handi-hour.

Check out two of the crafts to be featured at the event on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, in her latest how-to videos. At this Handi-hour you'll have a chance to meet Pigza and score a signed copy of her book, in addition to sampling the usual line-up of craft beers from Churchkey and enjoying some live music from local band Brent & Co.
