Artwork Description

Virginia artist Frederick Kahler spends months, sometimes years on his detailed ink and watercolor compositions, which evoke ancient landscapes, metaphysical themes, and myths. Drawing is both meditative and consuming for Kahler, who works in secluded silence and never retouches any mark he makes. Kahler's works are alternately geometrically organized or organic and free-form. His fluid watercolor washes fuse with the stark ink marks in paintings that recall stained glass and kaleidoscopes.
