Biography

When she was a child, Fridl Blumenthal loved making things with her hands, but her mother---a craftswoman herself---discouraged her daughter from becoming a "starving" artist. She and her husband fled Nazi Germany for the United States, where Fridl began making jewelry at home. A number of galleries were eager for her work, and soon the artist had more commissions than she could handle. To slow demand, Fridl began working exclusively in gold, and continued to do so for the remainder of her career.
