In anticipation of the exhibition 40 under 40: Craft Futures, on view at the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum from July 20, 2012 -- February 3, 2013, the museum asked the 40 artists featured to share personal videos of themselves with our audience. Here's what Jen Stark submitted. Enjoy! Jen Stark Social Media Video, 2012 Digital video, color, sound, 0:52 Courtesy of the artist
JEN STARK: Hi. My name is Jen Stark. I’m from Miami, Florida. I create intricate, colorful paper sculptures, wood sculptures, drawing and stop-motion animations. I’m inspired by a lot of things like nature, accumulation, outer space.
For this show I created a piece called “The Power of Being,” and it’s a large paper sculpture that sort of drips down the wall in a psychedelic pattern. I’m excited to be in “40 Under 40” because it’s the first time I’m showing at the Smithsonian, and that’s really exciting. I’ve always wanted to show there. It’s a huge dream of mine. And I’m really excited because there’s a huge lineup of really great artists I’m with so I’m very excited to be in it.
