Mickey Johnston grew up in rural Florida and attended the Penland School in North Carolina, a gathering place for teachers and students of various crafts. At Penland, he met Robert Ebendorf, who became a mentor for the artist. After many years of producing conventional jewelry for sale, Johnston has more recently begun making more distinctive “studio” pieces.
