  • Anthony de Francisci, Adolph Alexander Weinman, 1915, cast and silver plated white metal relief, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Gift of Mrs. Anthony de Francisci, 1966.51.59

Luce Center Label

Adolph Alexander Weinman (1870-1952) was Anthony de Francisci’s mentor and close friend. The younger sculptor based this portrait plaque on a photo of Weinman dating from 1912, and intended the work as a parting gift when he left Weinman’s studio. The legend at the bottom, written partly in Latin, reads: “His Pupil Anthony de Francisci Made This.”
