Artwork Description

Paul Manship created this medal to celebrate the birth of his first child, Pauline Frances, in 1914. The Latin inscription on the obverse also appears in French, Spanish, and German manuscripts of the Middle Ages and promises eternal happiness through the love of Christ. The inscription on the reverse, “In love/Isabel & Paul Manship/ Dec. 22,” refers to Manship’s wife, Isabel, and Pauline’s birth date.
