Gertrude K. Lathrop, Conserve Wildlife, 1938, bronze, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Gift of the heirs of Albert Laessle: Mrs. Albertine de Bempt Laessle, Mr. Albert M. Laessle and Mr. Paul Laessle, 1972.167.40
Gertrude Lathrop emphasized the message of this medal by picturing a western pronghorn antelope taking shelter behind a barrel cactus and a duck nestled among marsh grasses gone to seed. In this way, the sculptor drew attention to the need for wildlife conservation throughout the United States.
