Fossil Series: Tight Loop Comin

  • Brent Kee Young, Fossil Series: Tight Loop Comin, 1998, blown glass with lampworked inclusions, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Gift of Sally and Ned Hansen (The Glass Gallery), Colleen and John Kotelly and Joan Lunney and Will Idler, 1999.104

Luce Center Label

Each detailed image depicted on Tight Loop Comin is lampworked in clear glass, using a small torch to manipulate the glass into intricate skeletons based on authentic North American archaeological fossils. Brent Kee Young pushes the pieces into the colored glass of his vessels, building up heavy layers of clear glass over the top so that the skeletons seem to disappear, leaving only their imprint.
