Anthony de Francisci, Henry Doherty Morrey, ca. 1918, metal: brass/electrotype/patinated, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Gift of Mrs. Anthony de Francisci, 1966.51.60
Little is known about Henry Doherty Morrey, who appears on this medal. The inscription indicates that the young man lived only fifteen years, and was perhaps a victim of the great influenza epidemic of 1917. Anthony de Francisci may have been commissioned by the boy’s family to create this portrait as a memorial.
