Artwork Description

Anthony de Francisci created this bas-relief as a gift for his new bride, Maria Teresa Cafarelli, shortly after the couple married in 1920. Teresa was twenty-two years old and appears here in a sporting outfit and turban worn by women in the years just after World War I. This plaster relief study led to a finished version in gold-plated brass (see 1966.51.86).
