Artwork Description

Carl Andre used copper and zinc panels to construct Voltaglyph 28; these are the elements that exchange electrons in many batteries, so the sculpture resonates with potential power. Andre, who worked as a conductor and brake operator in the New York rail yards, uses industrially fabricated materials to explore the relationship between art and commerce and installs sculpture directly on the floor to emphasize to walk on this sculpture to reinforce the connection between the work and their own experience.
