Artwork Description
Eugene Kormendi often worked on a small scale, carving figures from richly colored woods. He frequently used religious themes, and Mother and Child may have been the inspiration for his large sculpture of the Virgin and child at the College of New Rochelle in New York. In this piece, Kormendi used simple forms and soft textures to create the familiar and comfortable scene of a woman nursing her baby.
