- Murals Without Walls, Muralism Without Borders: Womxn Artists and Their Portable Murals of the Chicano Art Movement in Colorado and California
This dissertation proposes a hemispheric conversation about the legacy of Chicano muralism in the United States that places womxn artists as integral participants in that genealogy. In particular, I focus on Chicana/x and Latina/x artists from Colorado and California who created portable murals of the Chicano Art Movement, such as Carlotta d.R. EspinoZa, Judith F. Baca, Barbara Carrasco, Alicia Maria Siu, and others. While at the Smithsonian, I will resurface primary source materials on these and other artists and muralists from the mid-1960s to today, approaching them from a Chicana/x feminist theoretical framework in order to enrich the canon of American art and Chicano history.
