California Loop Series #7

  • Marvin Lipofsky, California Loop Series #7, 1968, copper-plated glass, paint, rayon flock, and floatation foam, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Gift of the artist in memory of Henry and Mildred Lipofsky, 1997.84.1, © 1969, Marvin B. Lipofsky

Marvin Lipofsky will spend long hours in his Berkeley studio manipulating his hot-worked forms into their final shapes. Form #25 suggests a seedpod with its opaque, rough stem splitting open to reveal clear, shiny glass.

Each piece of glass has its own personality. I try to reveal it by cutting it open and shaping it.” Marvin Lipofsky, Oakland Museum of California, 2003
